“I Almost Lost My Marriage for Supporting Tinubu, Yet He Broke His Promises” – Foluke Daramola

Nollywood actress Foluke Daramola-Salako has expressed deep disappointment over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, saying the administration has failed to uphold the promises made during the 2023 presidential campaign.
In a candid interview with Behind The Fame TV, the actress, who was a vocal supporter of Tinubu during the elections, revealed that her strong political stance nearly ruined her marriage. She now questions whether her sacrifices were worth it.
“I almost lost my marriage because I supported him,” she confessed. “But he didn’t follow the plan. This wasn’t what we expected.”
Daramola said she had believed in a youth-oriented government, one that would involve young Nigerians in shaping the nation’s future. However, she now feels that the administration has sidelined the very group it promised to uplift.
“This is not a youth-inclusive government,” she said bluntly. “The plan was to carry as many youths along as possible.”
While she acknowledged that Seyi Tinubu, the president’s son, is making efforts to engage the youth, Daramola believes the overall administration is falling short.
“Yes, his son is trying to cut across and reach the youth, but that’s not enough. We’re not being carried along. We’re just hearing decisions being made. We should be at the table too.”
Daramola also criticized the removal of fuel subsidies, a decision she believes has worsened the economic crisis, especially for ordinary Nigerians.
“All the presidents have done it — removed fuel subsidies — and that’s what has made everything expensive: fuel, food, everything.”
She argued that if young people were more involved in governance, they could bring fresh ideas to solve these issues and help the public understand the reasoning behind certain policies.
Although Daramola stopped short of completely withdrawing her support, she made it clear that the current reality is far from the vision she believed in when she stood behind Tinubu’s candidacy.
“It’s not like I regret working for him… but this is not the plan,” she said. “If we were involved, we’d know where the problems are coming from. But we’re in the dark.”
The actress’s emotional revelation sheds light on the personal cost of political loyalty, especially when it’s not reciprocated with action or results. For Foluke Daramola, the price was almost her marriage — and now, it appears, her hope in the system as well.
