Bolt Drivers in Nigeria Now Earn More Than Doctors, Data Reveals

New data from Bolt Africa has revealed that the ride-hailing company’s top drivers in Nigeria are earning impressive monthly incomes — in some cases higher than what many doctors, teachers, and lawyers make in the country.

According to the figures shared by financial analyst Olumide Adesina, a leading Bolt driver earned ₦1,719,800.00 in July 2025, with net earnings after deductions totaling ₦1,409,727.48.

The breakdown shows that the bulk of this income came from cash payments amounting to over ₦1.44 million, alongside in-app payments, passenger promotions, and other compensations.

This revelation has sparked widespread debate online, as it challenges long-held assumptions about the earning potential of certain professions in Nigeria.

While doctors, lawyers, and teachers undergo years of education and training, some skilled ride-hailing drivers are now out-earning them through consistent trips, customer service, and strategic driving during peak hours.

Industry experts note that while such earnings represent the very top tier of Bolt drivers — often achieved by those working long hours or managing multiple vehicles — it still highlights the profitability of the gig economy in Nigeria when done efficiently.

The conversation now turns to what this trend means for Nigeria’s labor market, as more people explore non-traditional careers that can provide competitive income without formal professional degrees.
