Kano Islamic Police Storm Streets, Arrest 62 for Engaging in ‘Immoral Acts’ During Rainfall

Kano Islamic Police (Hisbah) in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested 62 individuals for alleged involvement in ‘immoral acts’ during rainfall in Dawakin Kudu, Kano State.
According to reports, the suspects—27 men and 35 women—were apprehended at the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) following a tip-off.
Officials claim the group had taken advantage of the heavy rainfall to “enjoy themselves” and engage in acts deemed indecent under Islamic law.
The Hisbah Commander explained that the arrests were part of the board’s ongoing crackdown on immorality in the state. “We cannot allow the rain to be an excuse for young men and women to gather and indulge in acts that go against our values,” he said.
The operation, carried out jointly by Hisbah operatives and NDLEA officials, has sparked widespread reactions across social media. While some residents support the move as a way of preserving morality, others see it as an infringement on personal freedoms.
The detainees are expected to face disciplinary measures, though details of possible charges or punishments are yet to be disclosed.
This is not the first time Hisbah has made headlines for controversial arrests. The morality police in Kano have previously detained individuals for dressing “indecently,” cutting hair in “unacceptable” styles, and even for playing loud music.
As reactions continue to pour in, the debate over morality, culture, and personal freedom in Kano State remains as heated as ever.
