Reno Omokri Call for Muslims to Have Fridays Off Just as Christians Rest on Sundays

Former presidential aide and social commentator, Reno Omokri, has sparked fresh debate online after questioning Nigeria’s workweek schedule, which he believes is unfair to Muslims.

According to Omokri, it makes little sense that Christians across the country are guaranteed a work-free day on Sundays, while Muslims are required to show up at work on Fridays — a day considered sacred for Jumu’ah prayers.

In a post shared on his verified page, Omokri argued that fairness demands balance, urging the Nigerian government to consider adjustments that would give Muslims the same respect for their holy day as Christians enjoy.

He suggested a simple solution: restructuring the workweek so that offices open earlier from Monday to Thursday, allowing workers to close at midday on Fridays. This way, Muslims can attend prayers without reducing productivity or harming Nigeria’s economy.

“If Christians don’t work on Sundays, then Muslims should not be required to work on Fridays,” Omokri insisted.

His comments have since triggered reactions across social media, with many Nigerians debating whether the current arrangement should be restructured to reflect religious balance in a multi-faith society.

While some support the idea, arguing that Muslims should enjoy equal treatment, others believe a nationwide Friday rest day could disrupt business and government operations.

For now, the conversation continues, but one thing is certain: Reno Omokri has once again put a hot topic on the table that Nigerians can’t stop talking about.
