Natasha Triumphs Over Akpabio, Set to Return to Senate After Suspension Drama

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has triumphed over Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and is now set to return to the Red Chamber on September 23, marking the end of her controversial six-month suspension.

The Kogi Central lawmaker was suspended on March 6 after a heated altercation during plenary. Natasha rejected a seat reassignment, which led to the Senate Ethics Committee recommending a six-month suspension that stripped her of office privileges, salary, and aides.

The move sparked public outcry, with Natasha alleging that the action was politically motivated and linked to her petition against Senate President Akpabio on grounds of sexual harassment — a claim the Senate dismissed.

During the suspension, Natasha made attempts to return, including a dramatic moment in July when she and her supporters were blocked by security operatives at the National Assembly. She also pursued legal redress, securing some favorable judgments, though the Senate insisted her suspension must run its full course.

Now, her lawyer, Victor Giwa, has confirmed that the suspension has expired. Speaking from Abuja, he revealed that Natasha, currently on vacation in London, is preparing to resume plenary duties on September 23.

Giwa stressed that nothing stands in her way, saying: “Everything is in place. The six months have expired. The only thing left is her resumption.”

This comeback is being viewed as a political victory for Natasha in her long-running face-off with Akpabio, and it’s expected to reignite debates about women in politics, power struggles in the Senate, and how internal conflicts are handled in Nigeria’s legislature.

From suspension and legal tussles to public confrontations, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s journey has been nothing short of dramatic. But as the countdown to September 23 begins, all eyes are on her return to the Red Chamber — and how her renewed presence will shake up the political atmosphere.
