Nigerian Police Force Reveal Spending ₦22m on 85 Cartons of Cream Crackers for Officers

In a development that has sparked outrage across Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has been found to have spent a staggering ₦22.28 million on just 85 cartons of Cream Crackers biscuits for its officers.
The revelation, which came from the government’s public payments portal, has left many Nigerians questioning how snacks could cost taxpayers so much.
According to records from the payments portal, the biscuits were supplied in three separate transactions, all involving Danlokey Systems Limited:
  • October 26, 2023 – ₦7.07m for 25 cartons of Cream Crackers, each carton worked out to ₦282,928
  • October 4, 2023 – ₦7.07m again, this time for 30 cartons
  • August 30, 2023 – ₦8.13m for another 30 cartons
In total, ₦22.28 million was disbursed for 85 cartons, averaging ₦261,717 per carton
Ordinarily, a carton of Cream Crackers sells for between ₦6,000 and ₦8,000 in supermarkets. By that measure, ₦22 million could buy over 3,000 cartons, not just 85
This stark difference has fueled suspicion of inflated contracts and wasteful spending
Nigerians react
The revelation has sparked heated reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing shock and frustration:

@Victor: “So ₦22m just vanish on biscuits? No wonder the country no dey move forward”

@Akinyemi: “Each carton ₦261k? Abeg, na gold they use bake these crackers?”

@Chibuzor: “With ₦22m, dem for supply officers rice, beans and oil wey go last months, not biscuits”

@Lizzy: “This one weak me. People are hungry in this country, yet billions dey go into nonsense”

@Tolu: “So na Cream Crackers go secure us now? Nigerians deserve better abeg”

All three payments were made to Danlokey Systems Limited, a company incorporated in Ogun State in January 2023. The firm, which is less than a year old at the time of the transactions, has raised eyebrows for securing such large-scale contracts with the police
The controversy goes beyond Cream Crackers. For critics, it highlights recurring issues with Nigeria’s procurement system: lack of transparency, inflated contracts, and misplaced priorities
For a country battling rising insecurity and economic hardship, ₦22m on biscuits sends the wrong message to citizens struggling to afford basic necessities.
