ASUU Ends Two-Week Warning Strike After NEC Meeting

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called off its two-week warning strike.
The suspension was announced on Wednesday by the National President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, during a press briefing in Abuja.
The decision followed a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held overnight, which concluded around 4:00 a.m.
ASUU had declared the strike on October 13 to protest the government’s delay in addressing several outstanding issues.
The union’s demands include the finalisation of the renegotiated 2009 FGN-ASUU agreement, release of withheld salaries, adequate funding for public universities, revitalisation of tertiary institutions, and an end to the victimisation of lecturers at LASU, Prince Abubakar Audu University, and FUTO.
Other demands are the payment of outstanding salary arrears of 25–35 percent, settlement of promotion arrears of more than four years, and the release of withheld third-party deductions such as cooperative and union dues.
The strike was suspended following recent discussions between ASUU and representatives of the federal government.
