FG Breaks Silence on Alleged Coup Plot, Calls for Calm

The Federal Government has finally reacted to widespread rumours about a supposed coup attempt against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, urged Nigerians to remain calm and rely on the official statement from the military regarding the situation. He stressed that the armed forces remain fully committed to protecting lives, property, and the stability of the nation.
Dare also explained that President Tinubu’s recent decision to reshuffle the military leadership — while retaining a few senior officers — was intentional. According to him, the President chose to keep certain officials in place to preserve “institutional memory” and maintain balance within the security hierarchy.
The security shake-up saw several top military officers replaced, including the former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa. In the new appointments, Major General Olufemi Oluyede was promoted to Chief of Defence Staff, while Major General E.A.P. Undiendeye retained his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
Dare commended the President for ensuring that the new service chiefs represent all six geopolitical zones of the country, describing the appointments as inclusive and reflective of Nigeria’s diversity.
President Tinubu announced the changes on Friday, October 24, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen national security and restructure the nation’s defence system.
